there are many words that are unspeakable in my home.
crap
fart
shut-up
suck
poop
barf
butt
to name a few. during family home evening we got in a bit of a heated discussion over what defines potty words. As my mom was spelling out all the words for us (c-r-a-p, j-e-r-k) and suggesting replacements words, Nate began his argument about whether it was the word or the topic of conversation that should be avoided. According to him if you're going to talk about human excrement, poop is just as good as b. m. (bowel movement**) which would have polluted us innocent girls if mom didn't step in and remind us that even when talking about vulgar things, there are ways to be...less vulgar than other people. So we all agreed to watch ourselves. Later that night after getting frosties at Wendy's for the FHE treat, Grace and Nate got into another heated argument about who could burp louder. As Grace asserted herself Nate said, "That's bull crap...that's b.m.!"
**From the very first time i was potty trained i was taught to call it b.m. which stands for bowel movement (my mom is a nurse). However, i didn't know that it stood for anything. i thought the actual word was "be-am". Imagine my surprise and chagrin when as a 12-year-old none of my friends knew what i was talking about.
